Beauty Blender Review: How To & Review on the beautyblender!

What are these squishy pink balls?!

I’m sure you’ve at least heard of these magical sponges by now, right? The beauty blender has hit the beauty scene with a bang this past year as we’ve seen celebrities and their makeup artists taking about them as well as beauty guru’s all of the internet raving. I believe Kim Kardashian is one of the celebs known for her use of the beauty blender.

(Note: The correct brand name is actually written as beautyblender, but for SEO purposes lets just split it up, OK?)

I have tried many brushes to apply my foundation. I’ve used the MAC 187 brush, the Urban Decay Optical Blurring Brush, and have tried some of the Real Techniques brushes. While each of them works well, I have to tell you that not one of them applies my foundations as flawlessly as the beauty blender.

Keep it in mind, the type of foundation you’re using my play into which tool will work best for you. For reference I’ve used the beauty blender with Urban Decay Naked Skin, Nars Sheer Glow, Revlon Colorstay Whipped and it’s worked marvelously on all of them.

Now that your interest is piqued, you might still be confused on how to use this product and if it will really make that much of a difference. I recently filmed a video showing you how to use the beauty blender and I also give you my thoughts and review it.

You can purchase the beauty blender on its own, or in a kit with a cleansing solution to clean it. It’s really up to you there, but I bought mine on their own.

Cleaning your beauty blender is easy! I clean mine after every 1-2 uses because I do not want to get any bacteria on my skin. Yuck. I wet the beauty blender and swirl the dirtiest end in a tiny bit of anti-bacterial soap under warm water. I let the beauty blender soak up water, and rinse until all the soap is gone. Ta-da! Nice and sanitary!

I hope you’ll find my video demo helpful and that you’ll give this a product a go for yourself. It’s the real deal. :)

September Favorites (and August too!) + Giveaway Reminder!

So I just realized I never made a blog post last month on my August favorites. That was rude and I apologize. So if you’re new to this kind of thing, every month I’ll be posting a video giving an update on what my current favorite products are. I may also throw in other favorites if it’s something I think is worth talking about! i.e. Homeland, which if you don’t watch, start NOW!

Check out my first favorites video from August! I am still loving all the products mentioned in this video.

Now that we’re caught up, let’s talk about September! Here is my most recent video with my favorite products I either tried in September, or that I fell back in love with! I also threw-in a few non-beauty favorites for fun!

If you’re an M83 fan, check out this video I took while at their show in Orlando, FL last week. It was so amazing. Sadly, my video of Graveyard Girl I took (my favorite song!) has some sound issues. So it may or may not make it’s way to YouTube.

Now a reminder! I am currently at 41 subscribers on my channel and that is AWESOME. It’s so nice when a friend of family member subscribes, but when someone across the country or world who I’ve never met does, it really means a lot. I appreciate every person who takes the time to watch my videos and subscribe. When I reach 100 subscribers I am going to be having a really cool giveaway. Trust me, it’s going to be good. So please be sure to subscribe to my channel and I’m hoping we can do this before the end of the year!

Let me know what your current favorite products are or anything else you’re loving at the moment!

Beautiful Inside and Out: Bob Harper Kettlebell Cardio Shred DVD Review

It’s been a while since I did a fitness related post. From here on out I will be calling my fitness and health related posts  “Beautiful Inside and Out,” since we all know that taking good care of our bodies and health are a key part of being beautiful!

Well, since I’ve been quiet on the matter a while I suppose it’s worth an update! I am on a hiatus from CrossFit for the time being due to my schedule and finances. I do hope to return this Fall. :)

Recently I have been doing my Jillian Michaels DVD workouts (No More Trouble Zones and Banish Fat Boost Metabolism) as well as Zumba. While I figure out whether or not to join my local LA Fitness, or stick with my current routine until I pick up CrossFit again, I decided to try a new DVD workout. I picked up Bob Harper’s Kettlebell Cardio Shred earlier this year since I had gotten a 10 pound kettlebell for Christmas. Why it took me eight months to try it I do not know. It was killer!

Bob Harper Kettlebell Cardio Shred

This is a 54-minute workout including warm up and cool down. I found the warm up in Bob’s video a lot more thorough than the ones I’ve seen in the Jillian DVDs and I appreciated that.

It was an intense workout and left me sweating, out of breath, and feeling like I got my ass kicked. If you are just starting getting active, I highly suggest starting with a kettlebell lower in weight. I used a 10 pound one and really had to push to get though the mostly non-stop workout. The girl performing the workout along side Bob was clearly struggling with the workout as well (she is using a 15 pound kettlebell). I liked seeing that because it reinforced that this was a tough workout for anyone.

Bob does a good job of taking you though the basic kettlebell moves (swings, clean and press, etc.) and keeps you moving for 99 percent of the routine with moves like high knees and burpees thrown in.

At the end of the workout you go through some ab exercises both with and without the kettlebell and finish off with a nice good stretch. Again, I felt Bob did a better job with the cool down/stretches than what I’ve seen in the Jillian DVDs I have and you’ll be thankful for those nice stretches after that intense workout.

I wore my Polar F9 heart rate monitor and burned approximately 411 calories during this 54 minute workout. Not bad! I can also tell you I am feeling the workout today (in a good day). If you’ve been interested in trying a kettlebell workout or are already a kettlebell lover you should definitely check out this DVD. I’m excited to work this DVD into my weekly routine!

Beautiful Inside and Out: Jillian Michaels Shred It With Weights (Review on Level 1)

I really enjoy DVD workouts that you can do at home if they are effective and worth your time. I own several of Jillian Michael’s workouts and I can tell you they are effective if done correctly.

Shred It With Weights is a kettbell workout, but if you don’t own a kettlebell you’re able to peform the moves with a single hand weight. In fact, in the video, one of the girls performs all moves with a hand weight which is very helpful.

Be warned that it’s not the same workout with a hand weight. The first time I did the DVD I used a 5 pound hand weight (they recommend using a weight between 3 to 8 pounds). I hardly broke a sweat and felt that DVD fell a little flat.

When I switched to using a 10 pound kettebell, wow, I felt the difference immediately. I would highly recommend using a kettlebell if possible. My kettlebell is from TJ Maxx and was fairly cheap compared to ones sold elsehwhere.

My other advice to you is to watch a video on proper kettlebell technique and form. Jillian doesn’t do the best job explaining this and I don’t want you to get injured. I took a begginer kettlebell class a few months ago and learned the technique. I found this video on YouTube and my kettlebell happened to come with a short DVD.

Level 1 of this DVD includes a warm-up, three circuits, and a cool down. The entire workout is about 30 minutes long. There are some moves such as the jumping squats and turkish getups which are too hard on my knees personally, so I do my own exercise of choice during that time. Those are two TOUGH moves!

Overall, this is great, short and effective workout and you will feel it the next day. I love using my kettlebell and I can’t wait to post more about it. You definitely get a total body workout.

Beautiful Inside and Out:Jillian Michaels – No More Trouble Zones: Review

No More Trouble Zones is one of my favorite workouts that I can do at home on DVD. I own a few different DVDs by Jillian Michaels, but this one is the most effective workout. I burn around 350 calories with this workout based on my Polar HRM.

NMTZ is a 40-minute (50 with warm-up and cool down) circuit workout that really gets your heart rate going. I prefer this workout over 30 Day Shred, Banish Fat Boost Metabolism, and Shred It! with Weights. Although I will say, all of these DVDs are good in their own way.

There are seven, six-minute circuits in the workout. I enjoy circuit training because it makes the time seem to go by faster.

For the workout you’ll need a mat for the floor, although I am fine with the carpet, and hand weights. I’d suggest starting with a 3 pound weight. If you’re really new to working out you could even start out with a 1 pound weight. I’ve even heard a few ladies mention they hold a full water bottle in each hand! My point is, don’t over do the weight on your first time. Better to realize you used one that was too light than not be able to move your arms for a week!

The hardest move in this DVD is The Surrender! You hold your hand weights up above your head (like you’re surrendering) and get down onto one knee, then bring the other knee down so you’re kneeling on both. With your hands above your head the entire time, you bring one knee up and stand. Doesn’t sound that bad? Let me know your thoughts after you try it! It’s killer!

If you have severe knee issues, this workout may not be for you. I have some minor issues with running mainly, but there isn’t a lot of jumping in this workout so I personally don’t experience issues. However, Banish Fat Boost Metabolism has some plyometric type jumping which cause my knees some pain.

For the most part, I’m not a huge fan of at home DVD workouts but this one is definitely effective and you get a good bang for your buck! Super cheap on Amazon and I’ve seen it sold for $10 at Target.

If you’re looking to invest in one of Jillian’s DVDs, consider this one. You’ll be sure to sweat.
