June Favorites: All The Best Things

Happy Summer everyone! I know it’s been a while since my last post and I apologize.  As you might imagine, moving across the country, finding a place to live, getting settled, and starting a new job all within two months can be quite hectic! However, I am happy to say that we are pretty settled in now!

Adjusting to living in completely new place hasn’t been easy to say the least. There are so many things that are completely different living in NYC from living in Florida. The one on my mind recently is how much walking you do! Due to all of the strolling around the city, I am getting a lot more time in the sun. Even though I am always wearing SPF, I can’t avoid the fact that I’m getting a bit tanner. I know a glowing tan is something many girls long for, but I tend to avoid the sun/tanning when I can.

That being said, I’d say about 75% of my foundations/face products are too light for me now! The horror. I may be making a stop at Sephora this weekend to get a new foundation, but it’s not a huge rush because one of my favorites still matches me – my Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation!

Check out my video below to see the other products I’ve been loving the past month, as well as some quick reviews on products I’ve used up.

L’Oreal Cherie Merie Infallible 24 Hr Eyeshadow – Miss Candy

I have been scouring all the drug stores in Brooklyn trying to find the new Maybelliene Color Tattoos that recently came out. So far, no luck! However, the other day I was in a CVS and spotted a display for the L’Oreal Miss Candy Spring/Summer collection which is limited edition.

I don’t normally get too caught up in the limited edition releases from brands, but one particular eyeshadow caught my eye from the collection.

L’Oreal Infallible 24HR Eyeshadow in Cherie Merie

Right now you may be asking yourself why there is a strawberry next to an eyeshadow. You’re right in questioning the mix of fruit and cosmetics, at least in this instance.

The truth is, I thought this collection was called Strawberry Blonde. Wrong I was! There is one eye shadow in the collection which holds that name, and it makes me angry. Why you ask? Because it’s a light iridescent color and I don’t personally think it represents Strawberry Blonde at all! Boo.

So where was I? Right, this particular eyeshadow in Cherie Merie caught my eye and I thought it was a beautiful, and different color to wear for spring and summer. I snagged the last one and headed home!

Swatchity-swatch!

I personally don’t own anything too similar to this color and I can’t think of anything quite like it. I think it’s a cross of MAC’s Coppering and Daydreaming eyeshadows, but still unique enough on it’s own.

When I went to try this bad boy out, I decided I wanted it to be the focus of the look. I applied it wet (sprayed MAC Fix + on my brush) to my eyelids over a base of Urban Decay Primer Potion and MAC Painterly. I used a warm matte brown through my crease (Brown Script would work great!), and finally MAC’s Shroom to highlight.

If you haven’t given the L’Oreal Infallible eyeshadows a go yet, do it! They are a pressed pigment eyeshadow and apply beautifully.

What do you all think of this eyeshadow? Love it or think it’s meh? I personally love it and will be wearing it a lot this spring and summer!

Hey, and just fot some laughs (and another shot of the color!) here is me enjoying that useless strawberry. :)

At least you’re good for something, strawberry…

Parabens in Cosmetics: Are You At Risk?

If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably spend the last year or two slowly noticing that many of the cosmetic products you see in stores are starting to label themselves paraben-free. At first you maybe glanced at it and moved on with your shopping, but after a while you started to wonder, “What the heck are parabens and why are some of my favorite brands forgoing them!?” Lucky for you (and me) one my best friends is a scientist! Well, as far as I’m concerned she is. Claire has a degree in chemistry and has worked in the field for a few years now, plus she is going to be starting a masters program in cosmetics chemistry this summer! Perfect!

Claire agreed to join me for a video to discuss the basics of parabens (specifically parabens in cosmetics), their dangers, and chat about our personal feelings on using products containing them. You can watch the video below!

Like I spoke about in the video, if you’re someone like me who is looking to stay away from products containing parabens as much as possible, I wanted to list some of my favorite brands which are fairly easy to get. Some are more affordable than others, but like Claire said, when you go the more natural route it costs the company more money, hence the higher price tag!

Some beauty brands I love that are entirely paraben-free are:

Tarte Cosmetics

Josie Maran

Korres

Neutrogena Naturals

Bare Minerals

Yes To

Burts Bees

JASON

Eminence Organics

Keep in mind there are many other brands which carry paraben-free products, but their entire line isn’t safe. For instance, I have the Nars Pure Radiance Tinted Moisturizer which is paraben-free, but not all Nars products are safe if you’re avoiding parabens.

There are also more brands which are exclusively paraben-free, so spend some time with your friend the internet doing your research!

Now that you’re a little more educated on parabens and their potential dangers how do you feel about parabens in cosmetics? What is your action plan?

Lana Del Rey Inspired Makeup Tutorial – H&M Fall 2012 Look

Lana Del Rey Makeup

Makeup Inspired by Lana Del Rey

One month! I really can’t believe it’s been a month since my first tutorial went up on YouTube. Time flies, huh?

I wanted to be sure I had a video to post today to kick off month number two, so here we have it! I recently saw the H&M Fall 2012 campaign with Lana Del Rey and I thought she looked so beautiful and that her makeup was very sleek and stunning. Not to mention there are some really cute pieces she is wearing from the collection. I am loving the grey tweed dress for fall.

I think this look is really great to help us transition from summer into fall. Lana usually has a pretty dramatic cat-eye, but I liked how in this look it’s a little more toned down, yet kept true to her typical lighter lid and accented crease.

This look is quite timely as it seems a few new songs from Lana Del Rey leaked today.  If you’ve come across them, tell me what you think? They seem a lot different to me than her previous stuff.

Speaking of which, when doing research for this look, I watched the Blue Jeans video and it’s been stuck in my head all week! Great song!

I hope you have been enjoying my videos and that you’ll subscribe to my channel! When I hit 100 subscribers I’ll be having a giveaway which I’m excited about.

Katy Perry Inspired Makeup Tutorial Elle September 2012

Hey everyone! I hope your week is off to a good start. We are halfway through it! Last week when I was in Target doing some shopping, I saw the new Elle magazine out with Katy Perry on the cover.

Katy Perry Makeup LookIt caught my eye because she looked so stunning with her dark/purple hair and deep smokey eyes. I knew I had to recreate this look! This look is really easy, I promise. You can create it with as little as two eye shadow colors.

Katy Perry just seems to cool and edgy to me, while I don’t listen to her a ton, I like it and I find her enjoyable. I wanted to see her movie, but no one would go with me. Lame.

Let’s get sidetracked for a moment, Katy Perry also makes me think of Darren Criss (who I named as my #1 celeb crush at my bridal shower, fyi). His character Blaine in Glee has covered a few of her songs. Flawless. For the record, Darren is currently behind Joseph Gordon-Levitt as my main squeeze. This changes often. However, all of these hunks are behind my husband! *blows kiss to John*

Back to business! I really hope you all enjoy this video and learn something. Please subscribe to my channel, comment on the video, like it, etc. It means a lot!
